about

song three of the three-song "Songs For The Phonophobic" suite. geez, how many times can i type the words "three" and "songs"? apparently 2 times each...

this one is pretty straight forward...probably the most "pop" of the songs we play but certainly not one to appear on katy perry's new release. it's always good to have a few songs that don't meander too far off the road for an audience lest you want them to careen into a ditch. or a ravine. i did that once. rolled my car three times down a 30' ravine after skidding on ice. that was interesting. actually, the most interesting thing was hanging upside down by my seat belt and seeing my wallet, cell phone, and a dunlop jazz iii pick sitting in front of me on the roof. no harm done. well, maybe to the car. they did have to cut us out...

doug takes the melody during the chorus on this one. why i continue to write melodies that i'd rather not sing live is beyond me. actually, it's not that i can't sing them. it's that i'd rather NOT sing them so i can sing later in the set. with doug off mic for most of a set, he can hit those stratospheric notes with no problem when necessary...

i'm particularly fond of the "pixelated" sounds during the verses. that's an effect from the korg kaoss pad. i run half of the effects on my pedalboard (mostly gain pedals) into the kaoss pad and then the rest after it (modulations, reverb, delays). the kaoss pad is fun because you get to "draw" effects. i like to draw. i'm not necessarily good at it, but i can draw a mean garfield. cat, not president...

implements abused:
reverend tricky gomez, blackstone mosfet overdrive, xotic EP booster, pigtronix quantum time modulator, korg kaoss, mxr carbon copy, randall rm100, lava retro coil and clear connect cables, curt mangan strings, soldier straps
